I am a huge Triumph fan. After years of lusting, I broke down and bought myself a new Triumph 1050 Tiger SE this year and have been having an absolute blast with it ever since. My Triumph love comes from the fact that they are well built, not overly common, (at least in North America), they have heritage, and they are above all fantastic riding and looking motorcycles.
Announced just yesterday formally, although its rumoured return has been known for many months, Triumph is bringing back the Trophy for 2013. A high performance luxury sport touring motorcycle, it shares the same power plant as this years new Triumph Explorer. For those unfamiliar it is an inline triple with over 130 horsepower, ride by wire technology and 89 ft/lbs of torque. The Trophy features electronic suspension, heated grips and seats, electric windscreen, tire pressure monitors, ample luggage with power to the top box…the list goes on and on. It looks like BMW is being given some serious competition for its legendary 1200RT touring model, not to mention Kawaski’s Concours, and Yamaha’s FJR.
I will have to wait and see when my local dealer gets one. Hopefully they will offer demo rides, as I think this will be priced out my range for a few years to say the least. Traditionally Triumph has been one of the better brands at offering demo rides throughout the year as opposed to just on one or two weekends per year.
